Hi Guys, and Gals:
I spoke to Noman/Brian/Cockroach today on the phone. He is fighting off the
effects of the Hawg Flu.
I have to be honest, as of today, Noman/Brian/Periplaneta Americana, this is his scientific name by the way.
Well, Roach as many of us call him is; the fastest, hottest, speedgliding, hybrid we have ever seen. He just
wiped all of us out at the Lake McCLure October Fest Speedgliding Comp.
But:
Lets also take a look at the fact that Brian has certain un-fair, built-in, advantages, that _we_ do not.
_WE_ being the common bipedal carbon based slugs that we are. We would need to perform at a super human leval,
to have a chance at bagging first prize in the speedgliding comp at Ed Levin. That is, if Roach (pays an entry fee),
and competes.
I got some info on Roach off the; Agri LIFE EXTENSION Texas A & M System.
Cockroaches have a hard Exoskeleton. We are lucky to fly with a hard back-plate in our fabric harneses.
Cockroaches "Can flatten their bodies" A Peregrine Falcon cannot do that. I know they can do some morphing of
their shoulders, and few other tricks, but Noman can get flat.
Check this out:
Cockroaches "Adults are capable of gliding flights".
Last but not least, Cockroaches "Leave an unpleasent odor".
Roach gave me his word, he said he WILL NOT compete at Ed Levin.
Besides, do you really want him stinking up launch ?
So all is cool.
Now I know what Bill France felt like when he banned Superbirds, and Daytona Chargers in NASCAR.
Citing an -un-fair advantage-.
Best High Speed Wishes.
The Big Guy.

Re: Speed Gliding at Ed Levin
He better fly. Ben could had beaten him IF ONLY.
I am going to make a jester to the club for Noman about the entrance fee plus 2010 membership for his time on making the trophies. I know he is donating them but still...
I heard Ken B has marked it on his calendar.
This is gonna be fun!! Positive vibe for the weather.

Re: Speed Gliding at Ed Levin (Updated 12/5/09)
Diev had asked where the finish gate will be...here is what we (JB, Brian Foster and I) discussed today while hiking the course.
Our goal is to have a safe landing area, so the finish gate will be set back a bit further to allow the pilots to bleed off some speed before landing. We have yet to fine tune this, but the idea was getting tossed around to have the finish gate inline somewhat with the south side of the LZ parking lot or thereabouts. This more than likely will get adjusted as we get things laid out, but that is the idea.

Here's a little teaser of what the course will be like sans turnpoints and altitude gates for now...Brian and I test flew the course, albeit conservatively, on Saturday and were happy with how it felt...you'll like it, too!

Roach is banned, period.
Whoa, whoa, whoa driver, throw down that there Strong-Box-!
Roach, what the hell are you trying to say here ? _YES_ you should feel free to come
to Ed Levin, and hang out with us in the ..............Landing Zone.
_NO_, you are not allowed up on launch in any capacity.
You gave me your word, you would NOT enter the speed gliding
to be held at Ed Levin.
I am sure, I miss-read your post on the .org, copied and pasted below.
I Just want to set things straight.
Best High Speed Wishes.

This event should be a gas! Thanks to everyone who is helping put this on.
Eric did a great job on the poster! It's reminiscent of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, and if you can remember Rat Fink, you're about as old as I am!!!
Let's go speeding!
