Let's go speeding!

Ha!

That was the inspiration (speaking for Eric)!

Steve, it'd be cool to see you tearing it up...we should have the course marked out this weekend, then we'll have it posted here, as well...it's fun and fast, that's for sure...I have a "teaser" video of the course on the announcement (first post) of this thread.

Here is my test run from sunday....

http://www.vimeo.com/8047248

I should have stayed prone until I passed that last glider on the ground (about where the last gate will be I'd hope)....BUT as you can see I landed at the spot slowing up way back at the fence....
I want to do a few more and keep up the speed until that point (where that last glider was (about where I get out of my harness)) and get some bleed off options on video...

JB and I set the "practice course" turnpoints and gates this morning. The altitude gates (start, 600' hill, 300' hill) are 10-foot pole sections for now. The extensions will be in place just prior to the event (left off in case of high winds between now and event date). If you head out to give it a go...the course starts at the 1200-foot hill and works its way down to the 600' hill, then on to the 300' hill, and down to launch...there are blue tarps and red tarps marking turn points...turn left around blue tarps and right around red tarps. We still need to add another turnpoint for the Rookie Class portion of the course, but you'll get the idea. The finish line gates have not been set yet, but will be complete the morning of the event. The finish line more than likely will be just south of the H4 spot landing area.

More later...

Volunteers Needed!
We need volunteers to make the speed gliding successful. We are still in need of 2 people to man the start gate, and an extra turn point judge for both days of the competition

We are also looking for drivers and photographers/videographers. There are one or two spots in the first half of the course where it would be especially cool to have some video.

If you or a loved one is willing and able to volunteer for one or both days reply here, or give me a call (ssix fiv oh, 575 5three46).

Let me know what days you are available and if you are willing to hike or not. Also make sure to tell me what your favorite beer or other drink is and I'll make sure there is a cooler full of it for you. ;)

Questions:

Where the speed gliding race starts:

How steep will it be?

How long of a run-out will there be?

I have only flown Ed Levin maybe 2x. I do not know the site that well.

I hope to get out there and do some practive runs also.

The Big Guy.

We were finally able to get a good smooth day for SG practice today. Here's a little course tutorial for those who haven't gotten to try it out yet.
