Visiting Pilots

The Wings of Rogallo welcomes visiting pilots to fly our sites.  Each site has its own requirements, outlined below.  Please feel free to email one of the site committee members for site-specific information, or contact the Membership Services Director for additional information about the club.

Visiting pilots must be members of USHPA, and may fly for free up to 2 days per calendar year.  If you intend to fly our sites more than 2 days, we ask that you join the club as a full member.

Foreign Pilots

If you’re a foreign pilot, you’ll need to have a 30-day temporary USHPA membership available from an instructor, tandem pilot, or club officer for a nominal fee.  In addition, it’s generally advisable to have an IPPI card to assess your ratings.

Process:

  1. Register on our site as a visiting pilot (free).
  2. Complete all necessary liability waivers.
  3. Read the site-specific information below and on each of the respective site pages, and get a site introduction.
Register as a Visiting Pilot

Mission Ridge

You must be an intermediate rated pilot (IPPI 3).
You must be a USHPA member.
You must register with the Wings of Rogallo website.  Once you register, you’ll be able to download your Membership Card with your visiting pilot sticker.

Note: Foreign Pilots should register as a non-USHPA pilot.  Only after getting your 10-day temporary USHPA membership will you be able to fly Mission Peak.

All pilots must contact a member of the site introduction team to be given a site introduction.  Site introductions are required for all visiting pilots:

Mt. Diablo

You must be an advanced rated pilot (IPPI 4 or 5).
You must be a USHPA member.
You must register with the Wings of Rogallo website.  Once you register, you’ll be able to sign the appropriate e-waivers and download your Membership Card with your visiting pilot sticker.

Note: Foreign Pilots should register as a non-USHPA pilot.  Only after getting your 10-day temporary USHPA membership will you be able to fly Mission Peak.

Mt. Diablo requires a site introduction:

Ed Levin

To fly Ed Levin, please review the Ed Levin Site Procedures.  There are a lot of restrictions and requirements depending on your rating.  All visiting pilots to Ed must be accompanied by a WOR member.
The process:
  • Register on our site as a visiting pilot (free).
  • Complete online waivers
  • Print the SCCPD waiver and carry it with you
  • Read the site-specific information below and get a site intro
SCCPD Waiver
One of the electronic waivers that you’ll fill out on is the Santa Clara County Park District (SCCPD) waiver.  Please print a copy of the filled-in SCCPD waiver and carry it with you when flying Ed.

The Stables

To fly The Stables and a site introduction and waivers are required.  This site is highly regulated due to the special use agreement with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) which is part of the US National Parks.
The process:
  • Register on our site as a visiting pilot (free).
  • Complete online waivers
  • Coordinate with a member of the Site Introduction Team to receive an in-person site introduction
  • Be familiar with the Site Procedures

Windy Hill

To fly Windy Hill as a visiting pilot, a club officer must obtain a permit for you from the park office, which can unfortunately take weeks for the club to obtain.  Instructions and requirements are listed on the Windy Hill site page.  Please note that this site is very fickle with the winds and very technical due to strong winds on launch and a long glide to an LZ with no viable bailouts.
The basic process:
  • Register on our site as a visiting pilot (free).
  • Complete online waivers
  • Coordinate with the Site Committee to obtain your MROSD permit (can take several weeks)
  • Receive a site introduction for your first flight
